tobyMac Biography (Page 2)
"One of the things I love about my new solo artistry is looking at a new beginning," says tobyMac, who has made the music industry his home for well over a decade. "You're at the bottom of a mountain looking straight up, and you're like, "I have some climbing to do." But what I have come to realize is that this is the most enjoyable time of an artist's career. You don't embrace every day of this journey."
From the explosive opening of "Get This Party Started" to the closing, dream-like reverie of "In the Air," Momentum is simultaneously his most personal and yet universal musical statement to date, the two sides fused as seamlessly as his musical blend of old-school hip-hop, R&B, reggae and grinding guitar rock. True to his heart, the songs are filled with an energy and passion of a man not afraid to "live out loud" his faith unshakable in the face of a secular world. "Hopefully my songs are about my life. Faith is a big part of my life. I'm here in the midst of this world, but my perspective, my outlook, is different because of my faith. So if I put all that together, you have a record that anyone should relate to." Music moves people, to dance, sure, but just as much, to feel, to think. This year, tobyMac hit the road with his diverse stage posse to tackle an invigorating schedule of 150+ dates across the country. Somewhere down the line, of course, he'll be back in the studio to record the follow-up solo album and eventually to reconvene with dc talk, but right now, Momentum is his mission, and believe him when he says he's just getting started. "I'm gathering steam and moving ahead with all the things I've learned from dc talk and from my own experiences," says tobyMac. "That's where it started, to say, "We have every reason to roll with momentum." It's amazing what can happen when you put a diverse group of people together. I think "tobyMac" represents a lot of people's passion, collaboration and talent, from the studio to the stage. tobyMac is bigger than Toby McKeehan." And from the looks of it, unstoppable. Like the song says, "Once you start an avalanche, there ain't no turnin' back."
